China's space program is making giant leaps, and the latest news is out of this world! The Shenzhou-21 crew has successfully tested new spacesuits during a spacewalk, marking a significant milestone in China's space exploration journey.
But here's the exciting part: these aren't just any spacesuits. The D and E suits, worn by taikonauts Zhang Lu and Wu Fei, are advanced second-generation versions of the iconic Feitian suits. Designed specifically for extravehicular activities (EVAs) outside the Tiangong space station, they offer a host of impressive features. From radiation protection to micrometeorite shielding, these suits ensure astronauts can safely explore the vastness of space.
And this is where it gets even more fascinating: the suits are equipped with a liquid-cooling system, maintaining the perfect temperature and humidity for the taikonauts. The suits' durability was evident as one has already been used 17 times, surpassing the previous standard of 15 EVAs over three years.
This spacewalk was a significant moment for both taikonauts. For Lu, it was a return to the stars after two and a half years, while Wu became the youngest taikonaut to perform an EVA.
