He adds, 'I'll even have conversations with some opponents, especially if we're on good terms. I was playing Vukic recently, and I had a great relationship with his coach, Brad Dancer, back in Illinois.'
But this is the part most people miss: the pre-match interactions don't seem to affect the outcome. As Tiafoe puts it, 'Once you're on the court, it's all about winning. Before that, it's just friendly banter.'
However, not all players share Tiafoe's approach. He notes, 'Everyone handles it differently. Some guys won't even look you in the eye. But with someone like Carlos Alcaraz, we'll greet each other warmly, and it's all about having fun on the court.'
