A bold new era has begun for Bristol Rovers, as they appoint Steve Evans, a seasoned manager with a controversial past, to lead their charge against relegation.
The League Two club has endured a harrowing run of 10 consecutive league defeats, which saw them plummet into the relegation zone. In a desperate bid to turn their fortunes around, Bristol Rovers have turned to Evans, a manager known for his no-nonsense approach and impressive track record in the EFL.
But here's where it gets interesting: Evans, 63, has been out of work since his sacking by Rotherham in March. Since then, he's been on a rigorous fitness drive, shedding an incredible 44.4kg (7 stone) of weight. Talk about a man on a mission!
His first challenge? An away game against Crewe Alexandra on Friday (19:45 GMT). A tough start, but Evans is no stranger to difficult situations. With over 1,000 games under his belt, including more than 700 in the EFL, Evans is a seasoned campaigner.
"It's fantastic to be here at Bristol Rovers," he said. "This club is steeped in tradition, and I've always found it a difficult place to visit. I'm excited for the challenge ahead and can't wait to get started."
Director of Football, Ricky Martin, believes Evans will provide the leadership and direction the club needs. "Steve brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of EFL football. His teams are renowned for their work ethic and commitment, which aligns perfectly with our vision."
Evans' assistant will be Paul Raynor, who had a loan spell with the Gas back in 1984.
